Romans 1:1—”Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God,”

Romans 1:6–including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ, Romans 1:7—”To all those in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints:  Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.”

What does it mean to be called by God?

Called—Invited by God in the proclamation of the gospel.  Divinely selected and appointed.

He also draws us.

“Question: “What does it mean that God draws us to salvation?”

The clearest verse on God’s drawing to salvation is John 6:44 where Jesus declares that “no one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.” The Greek word translated “draw” is helkuo, which means “to drag” (literally or figuratively). Clearly, this drawing is a one-sided affair. God does the drawing to salvation; we who are drawn have a passive role in the process. There is no doubt that we respond to His drawing us, but the drawing itself is all on His part.” From

2 Tim 1;9–“He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.”

He calls and draws us, not so we can work for Him rather that He may work through us.  He created a purpose for each of us before time began. He also gave us sufficient grace to fulfill His purpose.  He calls and draws us into His grace that we may walk in His purpose.

Ephesians 1:3—”Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, Ephesians 1:4–even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him.”

Hebrews 3:1—”Therefore, holy brothers, you who share in a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession,”

It is a heavenly calling because He created our calling before time began, in heaven.

1 Peter 2:9—”But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

Thank you, Lord for calling us before we were born, before time began.  Empower us with the Spirit that we may comprehend Your purpose for our lives.
