For All Time

Hebrews 10:12–But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God,

Hebrews 10:14–For by one offering he hath perfected forever them that are sanctified.

Hebrews 10:17–then he adds, “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.”

We see the cross through various perspectives in the scriptures.  Prior to Christ, many sacrifices  were offered for thousands of years. In fact, they were all a shadow of what was to come.

Hebrews 10:1–For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near.

The truth that jumps out at me in the scriptures above is, “for all time” and “forever.”  For by one offering we are perfected and sanctified for all time.   As I look inward it is difficult to see perfection and sanctification for now much less forever.  Who am I to argue with God?  He is not asking us to wake up every morning and try to be perfect and sanctified.  He is saying, by one sacrifice I have made you perfect in my sight, I have forgiven all of your sins for all time.  Then Jesus sat down at God’s right hand.

Hebrews 4:10–for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.

On the cross Jesus said, “It is finished.”  We tend to spend a lot of effort trying to make ourselves more acceptable to God.  The key to this doorway to rest is accepting His sacrifice for all time.  Jesus sat down and God rested from His works because He sacrificed His Son for all time for us.  He is calling us into this rest.  He is not remembering my sins.  These scriptures seem like such a different reality, far from my mind’s ability to comprehend.  This is God’s reality and He is calling us into His rest.

Ephesians 2:8–For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

Ephesians 2:9–not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

We thank You for Your grace that covers us for all time.  May we enter Your rest and find peace each day.
