I have mentioned the fact that we are new creations in almost every blog but wanted to dig a little deeper into this amazing truth. The term “born again Christian”, has been used in many ways over the last few generations. What does born-again really mean?
Adam is our great, great etc. grandfather. We inherit his DNA- a sin nature. Romans 8:7–because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be: Romans 8:8–and they that are in the flesh cannot please God. We try many ways to deal with this sin nature: laws, religion, legalism and self-effort strategies. There is only one way to freedom from the sin nature we inherited; death. Romans 6:6–We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.
John 3:16–For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth on him should not perish, but have eternal life. Romans 8:29—”For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.” When Jesus was resurrected, He became the first born of many. 2 Corinthians 5:17–“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
A new creation, conformed to the image of Christ is born when we accept Christ as our savior, the old us passes away. 1 John 3:9—”No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him; and he cannot keep on sinning, because he has been born of God.” Romans 8:18–For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. Romans 8:19–For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God. We know a new creation is in us, we cannot see it rather we believe by faith. All of God’s creation is eagerly waiting for this new creation to be revealed.
Romans 8:30—”And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.”
We are surrounded by this tent of flesh until we go to be with Him. This flesh and our carnal minds are not able to comprehend a new creation in us. Galatians 6:14—”But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. Galatians 6:15–For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation.”
Ephesians 4:24–:and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” Colossians 3:10—”and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.” Our new creation is made in the likeness of God, righteous and holy. Paul is encouraging us to put on the new nature. To put on, in the Greek- “is like sinking into new clothing.” He wants us to be aware of our new creation, our new clothing each day. Galatians 3:27—”For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.” Our new nature (clothing) is Christ. We are now one with Him. We are of His seed. John 17:22
The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, John 17:23 I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
We inherited a sin nature from Adam. When we are born again, we inherit Christ’s seed, His nature.
2 Peter 1:4 –by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
1 Peter 2:9 –But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
Satan successfully tempted Adam and Eve thus thwarting God’s plan for mankind. Satan tried to thwart God’s plan of salvation through Jesus when he tempted Christ in the desert. He failed. Jesus paid the price for our debt on the cross. When we accept Him as our savior, a new creation is born, a chosen race with His divine nature. Instead of eating of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil resulting in a sin nature DNA, we eat of the Tree of Life resulting in a divine nature DNA. We are no longer called sinners rather a chosen race. This new creation is one with Christ, conformed to His image. It is no longer I who live but Christ in me.
1 Corinthians 15:45
So also it is written, The first man Adam became a living soul. The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.
1 Corinthians 15:49
And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.
Lord, may you open our eyes that we might see the new creation inside of us the same way you see us. May your perspective become our perspective that we may proclaim your grace and excellencies.
